Toyota is intensifying efforts to replace defective Takata airbags across Cyprus, aiming to meet the looming deadline set by the Ministry of Transport. Starting in April, the company will begin offering airbag replacements at an accelerated pace, particularly for "gray market" vehicles that lack European Type Approval.
To streamline the process, Toyota has secured a dedicated facility at the Cyprus State Fairgrounds, where a specialized team of certified technicians will carry out the replacements. This initiative targets vehicles that were imported without the necessary European certification, which could potentially affect their safety features.
In addition to these efforts, Toyota Cyprus has recently received a large shipment of airbags from Japan to support the replacements, ensuring that the company can meet demand in the final months before the deadline.
The continued airbag recalls stem from the global issue surrounding Takata airbags, which have been linked to a series of fatalities and injuries due to faulty inflators. Toyota's proactive approach in Cyprus aims to address the issue head-on, prioritizing customer safety and compliance with regulatory deadlines.
