The weather appears to have woken up undecided today. One moment it's serving classic Cyprus sunshine, the next it's threatening to throw a dramatic little thunderstorm into the mix. We wouldn't expect anything less from June.
After any lingering low cloud and patches of fog clear away this morning, most of the island can look forward to plenty of sunshine, with the occasional cloud drifting by to keep things interesting. By lunchtime and into the afternoon, however, clouds are expected to start gathering over the mountains and inland areas, where they may produce an isolated shower or even a thunderstorm. In true overachiever fashion, some storms could bring hail along with them.
Temperatures will climb to a toasty 35°C inland, while the west coast enjoys a comparatively gentle 26°C. Elsewhere along the coast, highs will hover around 30°C, while the higher mountains remain the island's natural air conditioning at around 25°C.
A light sea breeze will make itself known through the day, becoming a little livelier along the southern coast at times. The sea itself remains in a calm mood, with only slight waves expected.
Tonight, low cloud will once again begin creeping into some areas, especially near the coast. As the island settles down, patches of fog may form in eastern, inland and southern districts, ready to surprise early risers tomorrow morning.
Looking ahead, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are all reading from much the same script. Mornings will begin with some cloud and local fog before sunshine takes over. Then, as if following a daily appointment, clouds are expected to build over the mountains and inland regions during the afternoon, bringing the chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms. Hail remains a possibility wherever thunderstorms develop.
Temperatures aren't planning any major surprises this week. They'll stay slightly above average for the time of year, keeping summer firmly in the conversation.
