Happy Monday! Most students have either finished school or are counting down the final days of exams, and parents everywhere can almost see the finish line. Summer is definitely starting to make itself at home across Cyprus.
Yesterday's temperatures ranged from a refreshing 26°C in the lucky mountain village of Prodromos to a sizzling 35°C in Nicosia (yes, we're looking at you), giving much of the island an early taste of proper summer heat.
A weak low-pressure system is currently affecting the region, bringing a slight chance of some afternoon drama in the form of isolated showers or thunderstorms.
Today will begin largely fine, but increasing cloud after midday could trigger isolated showers or thunderstorms over the mountains and possibly inland areas. Any thunderstorms that do develop may also bring hail. Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to west at a moderate Force 4, while the sea remains slight. Temperatures will reach around 34°C inland, 29°C along the coast and 25°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, skies will become mostly clear. Some patches of mist, fog and low cloud may form locally, particularly near coastal areas. Winds will ease to a light northwesterly to northeasterly breeze, and seas will remain calm to slight.
Looking ahead, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday all follow a familiar summer script: sunshine for much of the day, with cloud building after midday and the possibility of isolated showers or thunderstorms over the mountains and inland regions.
Temperatures are expected to hold steady through the week, remaining comfortably above average for this time of year.
