If June were asked to submit a sample of its work, today would probably be it.
Blue skies, warm sunshine, a light sea breeze and just enough afternoon cloud to remind everyone that nature likes a little variety. After the unsettled moods of recent weeks, the weather across Cyprus seems content to settle into a gentler rhythm.
A weak area of high pressure continues to influence the region, bringing another largely clear and pleasant day to the island. Most areas will enjoy uninterrupted sunshine through the morning, while a few fair-weather clouds may begin gathering over higher ground after midday.
The mountains may see a little extra cloud later on, but for most of Cyprus, today is shaping up to be a classic early-June day; bright, warm and uncomplicated.
Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, beginning gently before freshening during the afternoon. The sea starts the day calm and smooth before becoming slightly livelier later on, though conditions remain favourable for anyone seeking a quick swim, a seaside lunch or an excuse to delay going back indoors.
Temperatures will rise to around 31°C inland, about 28°C along the southern and eastern coasts, around 26°C on western and northern shores and 23°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, conditions remain mostly clear, although some cloud may drift through coastal areas from time to time. Winds ease back, and the sea settles into a calm evening mood.
Looking ahead, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all follow a familiar script. Sunshine will remain the main character, while afternoon cloud over the mountains may occasionally squeeze out an isolated shower.
Temperatures will remain close to seasonal averages through Saturday before edging slightly higher on Sunday.
In other words, Cyprus appears to be entering that part of the year when weather forecasts become reassuringly repetitive and nobody seems particularly upset about it.
