Tuesday Trend: Inland temperatures climb back to 40°C

Central plains touch 40°C under relentless sunshine as midsummer heat builds back up.

Newsroom

After yesterday’s manageable start to the workweek, the mercury is ticking back upward. Our trusty seasonal low-pressure system is keeping conditions bright and hot, pushing interior temperatures right back to the 40°C mark for the remainder of the day.

Today, skies are staying mostly clear across the island, with zero rain in sight and only a few light, scattered clouds over the highest peaks to interrupt the blue.

Here is how the thermometer breaks down across the island today:

Inland areas bear the brunt of the climb, hitting 40°C. The western and southwestern shorelines offer the crispest coastal escape at a much more comfortable 33°C. The remaining coastlines (north, south, and east) sit in the middle at 36°C, while up in the higher Troodos peaks, you will find a pleasant retreat at 30°C.

Winds start off light and variable at 3 Beaufort, eventually settling into a light-to-moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort out of the southwest and northwest. If you are along the southern coastline later this afternoon, expect a livelier breeze, strengthening to a firm 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea remains well-behaved, keeping to a calm to slight state overall, with just a touch of texture along southwestern beaches.

Once the sun sets, the heat will gradually radiate off the pavement, leaving clear and calm conditions right through to early Wednesday morning.

Winds will ease back into a light, variable flow around 3 Beaufort. The sea will stay calm to slight, making for a tranquil evening along the water.

Midweek outlook: Heat plateau holds through Friday
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: The forecast locks into a steady routine. Expect clear, sunny skies each day with no significant change in temperature.

Inland highs will continue to hover around 40°C, holding steady a couple of degrees above our normal seasonal averages for late July.

Take advantage of shade during peak afternoon hours and enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!
