Two young men, ages 24 and 23, were taken into custody on Thursday as part of an investigation into an incident involving illegal hunting activity, a traffic collision, and failure to obey a game warden’s instructions.

The case dates back to the early hours of November 26, when officers from the Game and Fauna Service were patrolling a restricted hunting zone in the Limassol district. During their patrol, they spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously. The car had no registration plates and was equipped with a powerful front-mounted spotlight. Moments after noticing the vehicle, the officers also heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from its direction.

The wardens attempted to stop the car for inspection, but the driver reportedly sped away. In the process of fleeing, the suspect vehicle is said to have rammed into a Game and Fauna Service car, causing damage. Although the officers pursued the fleeing vehicle, they were ultimately unable to intercept it.

Following a report to the police, investigators gathered testimony linking the two suspects to the incident. On this basis, arrest warrants were issued, and both individuals were apprehended and detained on Thursday to assist with further inquiries.

The investigation is being handled by the Kalo Chorio Police Station.
