A 57-year-old man was charged on Wednesday in Paphos for hunting without a license and illegally transporting a shotgun and ammunition, according to police.

Pafos Assistant Police Operations Director Michael Nicolaou reported that Game Service officers spotted the man hunting wild game in a permitted area but without the required hunting license. Officers from the Game Service detained him and brought him to the Polis Chrysochous police station, where he was formally charged in writing with illegal possession and transportation of explosives.

Nicolaou confirmed that the man’s shotgun and cartridges were confiscated. In addition to the charges for handling explosives, the man will face an out-of-court fine from the Thera Service for hunting without a license.

Cyprus authorities remind hunters that strict regulations are in place for public safety and that licenses are mandatory for all hunting activities.
