Weather: A gentler Monday arrives after the recent heat alerts

Seasonal low pressure is still in the picture, but the edge has softened.

Newsroom

Today
Mainly clear skies to start the week, with only temporary afternoon cloud gathering mainly over the mountains. That cloud may squeeze out a few isolated showers, just enough to remind the peaks they still exist. Winds begin variable and light at Force 3, then ease into a southwesterly to northwesterly flow, light to moderate at Force 3-4 and locally Force 5 along the southern coast. The sea will be slightly rough.

Temperatures reach 39°C inland, around 35°C along most coasts, 32°C on the southwestern and western coasts, and a cooler 29°C in the higher mountains. Still warm, but a noticeable step down from the recent peaks.

This evening
Mainly clear. Winds turn mainly northwesterly to northeasterly and drop to Force 3. The sea settles to calm or slightly rough, a quiet close to the day.

Tuesday to Thursday
More of the same comfortable pattern: mainly clear with temporary afternoon cloud over the mountains that may again produce isolated showers. Temperatures hold steady and remain only slightly above the seasonal average.

Enjoy today, a Monday that asks less of you than the last few.
