Wednesday weather bulletin: An adventure in atmosphere

Clouds decide to wander and mountains show off.

Newsroom

A weak low-pressure system has decided to mosey into the region. It’s the kind of system that shows up late to the party and brings a sprinkle of dust along for companionship.

Today: The sky is feeling a bit indecisive. It will be mostly clear at first, but clouds will wander in here and there just to keep the view interesting. Around midday and beyond, a few isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may make cameo appearances, especially in the mountains, which clearly love any excuse to host a flashy performance.

Winds in the western areas will flutter from southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, like a polite whisper at 3-4 Beaufort. Elsewhere, the breeze will shift between northeast and southeast, weak to moderate as well, gradually flexing into moderate to strong along the windward coasts at 4-5 Beaufort, showing off a bit of personality. The sea will begin the day calm to slightly rough, but don’t be surprised if it adopts a slightly rougher mood later in the north, east, and south.

Temperatures are feeling ambitious: inland spots will sizzle at 31°C, southern and eastern coasts will flirt with 30°C, other coasts settle at a more measured 28°C, and the mountains will play it cool at 23°C.

Tonight: The sky will layer itself with medium and high clouds, occasionally letting a light rain wander through. Winds will meander from northwest to northeast, and on northern coasts from the southeast, maintaining a polite 3-4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough in the north and east, and more relaxed, calm to slightly rough, on the west and south.

Thursday: Clouds will make intermittent appearances like uninvited guests popping in for tea. After midday, isolated showers and thunderstorms may drop by, especially in mountainous areas, which seem to attract all the excitement.

Friday: Expect partly cloudy skies, with scattered showers and thunderstorms dropping in like they own the place.

Saturday: Mostly clear skies resume, though the mountains might still host a lone shower after midday, refusing to be left out.

Temperatures will stay stubbornly high on Thursday, above the seasonal average, before gradually easing down by Saturday, but still keeping their sunny ambition alive.
