Crews have managed to bring a wildfire under partial control after it erupted Friday afternoon in the area between Agios Symeon (Avtepe) and Koroveia (Kuruova) in occupied Karpasia, officials confirmed.
The fire, which ignited shortly after 3 p.m., drew a large-scale emergency response that included firefighters, police, forestry workers, civil defense teams, municipal crews, and heavy machinery, according to the so-called "police press office" in the occupied north.
Containment and cooling operations were continuing into the evening.
Authorities said additional support has been requested from the military, including helicopter assistance, to help fully suppress the blaze.
Speaking to local media, the authorities noted that the response team includes personnel from the fire service, civil defense, armed forces, and the local municipality.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
