Local media said authorities were notified on Saturday morning around 10am about a dead body on a beach strip near Aphrodite’s Rock, a famous beach attraction in the Petra tou Romiou area in coastal Paphos.

Paphos police official Michalis Nicolaou said law enforcement agents rushed to the rugged area, including a helicopter that was used to retrieve the body.

A Ukrainian national, who notified authorities about the incident, reportedly said his 28-year-old girlfriend also from Ukraine was attempting to take photos when she lost her balance and fell 100 meters down a cliff.

Additional reports said the couple drove to the area separately, with the woman’s boyfriend telling authorities she had driven on her own to the location where the two met.

Paphos police director Nicos Tsiappis later said nothing was initially ruled out, adding all possibilities were beign investigated including foul play.
