Man in Limassol injured after water heater explodes in the bathroom, cause not yet clear

A young man taking a shower in a Limassol apartment was rushed to the Emergency Room after suffering burns following a water heater explosion.

According to local media, a 25-year-old male described as a Romanian national was in the shower Tuesday night around 9:30pm when an explosion took place.

Reports said an electric water heater installed in the bathroom had exploded, injuring the man with second degree burns. It was not immediately clear whether burn injuries were caused by the explosion or very hot water or both.

A woman, described as a 43-year-old Bulgarian national, was also injured in the incident, with reports saying she was in an adjacent room at the time of the explosion.

The man was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors on duty said his burns covered 15% of his body.

Doctors arranged for the injured man to be transferred to Nicosia General for treatment while the woman was treated for minor injuries.

Police and the Fire department were assigned to the case, while officials from the Debarment of Electrical and Mechanical Services were asked to join the investigation.

It was not clear whether specific equipment or the nature of the installation had caused the explosion. Reports said authorities were investigating the case to determine the exact cause of the incident.
