Authorities are puzzled over the death circumstances of a 31-year-old man in Paphos after burns were discovered on his body.

Police on Saturday afternoon found a 31-year-old male, described as Greek Cypriot, unconscious in his apartment around 3pm. The man was rushed to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

According to preliminary reports, police said they did not suspect foul play while investigators collected a number of items from the scene for further testing.

It later emerged that there were multiple burns on the body, with officials unsure whether they were caused before or after the man’s death.

An official autopsy which was still pending by Monday morning, was expected to reveal the exact cause of death.

Some local media cited speculation by unnamed officials that the burns on the body could have been caused by an electric heater.
