A man from rural Nicosia has received a prison sentence after he was found guilty of sexually abusing and torturing animals at a small farm in Larnaca.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, a 65-year-old male from a rural town outside Nicosia was found guilty on Wednesday on bestiality-related charges.
The crimes took place in early 2018 when the owner of a small animal farm in Larnaca district told police an unknown person had been trespassing on the property and abused his animals in his barn.
After the farmer filed a complaint with police in early February, the property and livestock were placed under partial surveillance. But a state animal services administrator had confirmed the suspicions based on evidence relating to bestiality, such as of sodomy and other sexually abusive acts, that had been going on even after police were notified.
A month later a man from a rural town in Nicosia district was apprehended and later admitted he had been abusing the animals for three months.
A Larnaca district judge found the defendant guilty on a total of 57 bestiality charges and sentenced him to nine months behind bars.
