In a bold move to boost the development of the Famagusta district, President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, announced 30 new projects with a total budget of €122 million aimed at improving infrastructure, local services, and the overall well-being of residents. The announcement came during a regional gathering held in Paralimni, as part of the President’s ongoing tour of Cyprus' municipalities and communities.
Joined by members of the Council of Ministers and various state officials, Christodoulides emphasized the importance of the Famagusta district in contributing to Cyprus’ economic growth. Specifically, he highlighted the district’s significant role in tourism, agriculture, and its broader influence on the nation’s economic competitiveness.
Focused Investments Across Key Sectors
The newly announced projects span a wide range of sectors aimed at transforming the region. These include major upgrades to the road network, the development of linear and urban parks, and enhancements to tourism infrastructure to further support the island’s vital tourism industry. The President also stressed the importance of improvements in sports infrastructure, which will include the development of sports centers to serve both residents and tourists alike.
Among the critical projects set to accelerate in the coming months is the long-awaited Fishing Shelter in the Liopetri River, which is expected to significantly boost the local fishing industry.
