Building permits issued in Cyprus saw a massive 150% jump in June 2024 compared to the same month last year, as authorities worked to clear a backlog ahead of a major reform. Starting July 1, the responsibility for issuing permits shifted from municipalities and district offices to newly created Local Government Organizations.

According to data from Cyprus’ Statistical Service (Cystat), 1,528 permits were issued in June, compared to just 610 in June 2023. The permits, valued at €781.6 million, cover nearly 595,000 square meters of space and allow for the construction of 2,772 housing units.

For the first half of 2024, 4,782 permits were issued, marking a 32.5% increase from the same period last year. The value of permits rose by 44.4%, totaling €2.04 billion, while the number of housing units jumped by 44.4%.
