Newsroom

Tourism in Cyprus is off to a flying start in 2025, with January’s revenue soaring to €69.2 million, a 53.1% jump compared to the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Statistical Service’s Traveler Survey.

What’s behind the boost? More tourists overall, up by 27.5%, and bigger spending, especially from Israel and the UK. These two countries led the way in January arrivals and opened their wallets wider than before.

Israelis lead the charge

Israeli tourists made up the largest chunk of January’s arrivals, accounting for 21.1% of all visitors. Their numbers more than doubled compared to last year, up 159%, and they didn’t hold back on spending. On average, Israeli tourists spent €176.13 per day, up from €118.34 in January 2024. That’s a nearly 50% increase in daily spend.

British tourists follow closely

The UK remains a key market, making up 16.7% of total arrivals this January. British visitors also increased in number (up 14.6%) and opened their wallets a bit wider too, spending an average of €57.75 per day compared to €52.73 last January.

Other markets growing too

Germany and Poland also showed strong results. Arrivals from Germany rose by nearly 40%, while Poland, the third largest market in January with 14.1% of all tourists, maintained steady spending levels of about €70 per day.

More spending, more value

It’s not just that more tourists are coming; they’re spending more per person. The average tourist spent €617.65 during their stay this January, compared to €513.52 in January 2024. That’s a 20.3% increase in per capita spending, a clear sign that Cyprus is offering experiences visitors are happy to pay for.

A promising year ahead

With such a strong start, 2025 is shaping up to be a promising year for the tourism sector. Hoteliers and businesses across the island are hopeful that this momentum will continue through the spring and summer seasons, especially if Cyprus keeps delivering the mix of sunshine, culture, and value that travelers are looking for.

For a country that relies heavily on tourism, January’s numbers are a welcome confidence boost and a reminder that even the quietest months can pack a punch.
