Cypriot teachers see some of the fastest salary growth in Europe, according to new figures released by Eurydice, the European Commission’s network for education analysis.
Marking World Teachers’ Day, Eurydice unveiled an updated online platform that compares pay scales for teachers and school leaders across 37 European countries. The data, compiled with input from the OECD and national experts, provides a broad look at earnings from pre-primary through upper secondary education.
In Cyprus, teachers begin their careers earning about €26,600 annually, slightly above the European median for the 2023–2024 school year. After 15 years in the classroom, that figure nearly doubles to €50,576, the third-highest mid-career salary in Europe. By the end of their working life, Cypriot teachers can expect to earn around €66,323 a year, trailing only colleagues in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Eurydice’s interactive platform offers more than just salary tables. It allows users to compare countries, examine how pay evolves with experience, and explore how factors such as school size and administrative duties affect principals’ earnings.
The tool also enables users to filter results by education level, qualifications, and other criteria, and to export data and charts for research or policy analysis, providing a comprehensive view of teacher pay across Europe’s education landscape.
