The Municipality of Lakatameia reported Monday that the park on Salaminos Street in Tseri has been vandalized for the fourth time within a year.
“Vandalism for 4th time in one year, at the park on Salaminos Street in Tseri,” the municipality said in a Facebook post. “How many more times?”
“For the fourth time in a year, the park on Salaminos Street in Tseri has suffered damage from acts of vandalism,” the post continued. “Another act of destruction that cannot, and must not, go unnoticed. It’s not only about the repeated damages and the cost of repairing them. It’s mainly about the lack of respect towards everyone, especially fellow residents.”
According to the statement, “The Municipality of Lakatameia will immediately take all necessary actions to restore the damages. However, the disappointment remains.”
“Once again, we ask for everyone’s cooperation and vigilance. If you see something, please inform us,” it added. “Public spaces belong to all of us, and we have a duty to protect them.”
Residents responded to the post, expressing frustration and demanding action.
“I agree with installing cameras,” wrote Anita Efstathiou Gregoriades. “The vandals must be found and punished. Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. Similar cases have occurred in other areas of Lakatameia. The vandals have taken over and become emboldened! If this impunity continues, and if some laws aren’t finally enforced, then nothing will be left standing. As you said yourselves, this is the 4th time! And let’s not forget: the repair costs are paid by the citizens! Call a general assembly, reach out to the residents. Ask for the opinions/help of those who live here. Nobody wants this situation… except, of course, the vandals themselves.”
Christos Antoniou asked, “Why hasn’t anyone been arrested? Is it so hard to find them and make them pay for the damages they caused?”
“With how much it costs to fix everything each time, maybe it’s worth installing cameras,” added Evi Chrysostomou.
Top fan Stella Kaniklidou Constantinou also urged, “Install cameras.”
“Exemplary punishment. To the very end,” commented Andreas Markides.
The municipality concluded its post saying, “Public spaces belong to all of us, and we have a duty to protect them.”
