Freight transport rises in Cyprus as trade and domestic movement pick up

Road cargo activity grows in 2025, reflecting stronger goods movement across the island and abroad.

Road freight transport in Cyprus increased in the final quarter of 2025, with both domestic and international cargo activity showing steady growth over the year, according to new figures released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

Between October and December, the total weight of goods transported within Cyprus rose by 19.4% compared with the same period a year earlier. That brought the total to about 10.9 million tonnes, up from 9.1 million tonnes in late 2024.

At the same time, freight moving in and out of Cyprus also increased, rising by 14.2% to 11,000 tonnes.

For the full year, January through December 2025, road transport within the island was up 4.8%, while international freight activity recorded a stronger increase of 10%.

The figures suggest more goods are moving through Cyprus both domestically, from construction materials to retail supplies, and through trade routes linked to imports and exports.

For everyday life, that kind of increase often shows up in small but noticeable ways: more construction activity, fuller supermarket shelves, and a steady flow of imported products reaching local businesses and households.

Officials did not provide a breakdown of the specific goods transported, but the overall trend points to a gradual strengthening in transport and logistics activity across the island economy.
