Greek retail giant Jumbo is taking its next big step abroad, this time to Canada. The chain, known for its toys, home goods, and seasonal products, plans to open its first three stores in Ontario in 2026, marking its 12th market globally.
The Canadian expansion will be carried out through franchising by the Fox Group, which already holds the rights to develop Jumbo stores in Israel. The group plans to open five to ten stores across Canada over the next three years. Fox Group is no stranger to Canadian retail: its subsidiary operates stores under Mango, Laline, Fox Home, and maintains a partnership with Nike.
Jumbo is also continuing its growth in Israel, with the fourth store opening in November and plans for another five to six stores in 2026. Globally, through franchising, Jumbo is present in seven countries: Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Israel, with 42 franchised stores. Its corporate stores operate in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Cyprus, totaling 89 locations.
The company’s sales are on an upward trend. From January to November 2025, Jumbo’s sales grew 8% year-on-year, with November alone up 6%. In Greece, November sales increased by 6%, while Cyprus saw 3% growth. Bulgaria and Romania posted increases of 8% and 6%, respectively, for November, showing strong performance across their networks.
Jumbo also weighed in on current events affecting retail. In a statement, the company urged the Greek government to act swiftly amid ongoing farmers’ protests, warning that road, port, or customs blockades could disrupt supply chains during the critical holiday season. “Such disruptions will affect both store supplies and exports. We call on the state to ensure the smooth functioning of the market during this critical period,” the company said.
With Canada on the horizon and steady growth at home and abroad, Jumbo looks set to continue expanding its international footprint while navigating local challenges along the way.
