Cypriot tax payers will soon be able to file their tax forms online through TAXISnet, with authorities working around the clock to make sure they can launch the programme in April.
The exact dates when electronic forms will be available are not known at this stage, but officials from the Tax Department told the media that dates will be announced later and information material will also be made available to the public.
But in order to file taxes online, tax payers will first need to sign up with TAXISnet using their login information. The Tax Department will be sending out letters to tax payers who have not yet registered with TAXISnet in order to provide them with a unique password.
Tax department officials are asking the public not to contact the Citizen Customer Service Centres for matters related to tax filing
The online form is reportedly a simplified electronic version, which will be automated in some parts to help users. For example, amount totals will be completed automatically and other text fields will be populated in advance, so the user shouldn’t expect to use a calculator or type all the information.
Any deadline extensions will be shared with the public through official announcements and the department also plans to offer courses to individuals who may not be tech-savvy.
However, tax department officials are asking the public not to contact the Citizen Customer Service Centres for matters related to tax filing.
Filing taxes in Cyprus is mandatory and not doing so is punishable by law. Tax filers who fail to submit forms by the deadlines should expect to pay administrative fines and late fees.
