Tourist arrivals in Cyprus surged past 1.65 million in the first half of 2024, marking a 2.4% increase from the previous year, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat). The influx of visitors in June, the start of the summer season, rose by 5.5% compared to June 2023.
CyStat reported 482,261 tourist arrivals in June 2024, up from 456,985 in June 2023. From January to June 2024, a total of 1,652,475 tourists visited the island, compared to 1,613,690 in the same period of 2023.
The United Kingdom remained the largest source of tourists in June 2024, accounting for 35.6% (171,704) of total arrivals. Israel followed with 10.7% (51,814), Poland with 7.5% (36,202), Sweden with 4.9% (23,639), and Germany with 4.5% (21,552).
Notably, tourist arrivals from Israel saw a significant increase, rising from 7.9% in May to 10.7% in June. In contrast, arrivals from Germany saw a decline compared to May.
In June 2024, 83.4% of tourists came for holidays, 10.5% visited friends and relatives, and 5.9% traveled for business purposes. This compares to June 2023, when 81.7% visited for holidays, 12.6% visited friends or relatives, and 5.5% were on business trips.
Meanwhile, the number of Cyprus residents returning from trips abroad in June 2024 dropped by 1.3% to 136,739, down from 138,588 in June 2023. Greece was the top destination, accounting for 37.5% (51,260) of returns, followed by the United Kingdom with 11.9% (16,311) and Italy with 4.9% (6,641).
