In a welcome boost for the Paphos district, more than €620,000 in grants will soon flow into Polis Chrysochous and surrounding communities as part of a government push to breathe new life into rural, mountainous, and remote areas.

The funding, provided by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, was officially approved on Friday following the signing of agreements with local authorities.

According to the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, the grants will be used for a wide range of improvement projects set to be completed by the end of the year. These include landscaping, the creation of scenic viewing spots, stone wall construction, accessibility upgrades for people with disabilities, and the installation of benches, tables, and bins. Some funds will also go toward launching a new municipal website.

“This is more than just a cash injection; it’s a lifeline for our villages,” said a local official. “These projects will enhance daily life, attract visitors, and help keep our communities vibrant and alive.”

Here’s a breakdown of how the grants are being distributed:

Polis Chrysochous – €32,000
Agia Marina Chrysochous – €65,000
Neo Chorio – €65,000
Argaka – €64,828
Pomos – €64,871
Chrysochou – €64,450
Nea Dimmata – €64,350
Gialia – €59,400
Pelathousa – €42,000
Terra – €40,590
Droushia – €36,900
Kritou Terra – €21,560

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to tackle the challenges faced by smaller and more isolated communities, especially those struggling with depopulation and limited services. Local leaders are hopeful that these investments will improve both infrastructure and quality of life while also making the region more attractive to tourists and new residents alike.
