Cyprus expected to captivate at Venice Art Biennale

Nation's artistic talent to enthrall audiences at prestigious international exhibition

Newsroom

Cyprus is set to make its mark at the prestigious 60th International Exhibition of Contemporary Art – Venice Art Biennale, slated to run from April 20 to November 24, 2024. With curator and art historian Adriano Pedrosa at the helm as artistic director, the island nation will showcase a diverse array of talent.

Representing Cyprus will be a dynamic trio: the artistic duo Lower Levant Company (Peter Eramian, Emiddio Vasquez), the Endrosia Collective (Andreas Andronikou, Marina Ashioti, Niki Charalambous, Doris Mari Demetriadou, Irini Khenkin, Rafaelia Tsiridou, Alexandros Xenophontos), and artist Haig Aivazian. Their collaborative proposal, titled "On a wildflower-lined gravel track off a quiet thoroughfare...", promises to captivate audiences with its intriguing narrative.

The grand unveiling of the Cypriot pavilion is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m. The esteemed occasion will witness the presence of Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou. The pavilion will find its home at Associazione Culturale Spiazzi, Castello 3865, (Venezia 30124).

Of notable mention is the exhibition's title, inspired by the opening sentence of a 2019 Forbes article, shedding light on a clandestine spyware operation conducted from a black van stationed inconspicuously along a gravel track in the coastal city of Larnaka.
