Drug possession, assault and speeding among hundreds of offences uncovered during coordinated patrols and roadside checks.

Police arrested 11 people overnight across urban areas in a series of coordinated operations targeting crime, traffic violations and public disorder.

The arrests included a range of alleged offenses, from drug possession and theft to assault, stabbing, disturbing the peace, public insults, and the execution of a European arrest warrant linked to economic crimes.

The operations were carried out as part of increased police patrols in busy city areas aimed at preventing serious crime and improving public safety.

Police said they stopped and checked 473 drivers and 201 passengers during the night. At the same time, officers carried out checks at 29 premises, where three complaints were filed for various offenses.

On the roads, officers recorded 304 traffic violations in total. Of these, 84 were for speeding, still the most common offense on Cypriot roads, while seven vehicles were taken off the road during checks.

Alcohol and drug testing was also carried out. Out of 53 breathalyzer tests, one driver was reported, while two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug screening.

Police said the coordinated operations are part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on delinquency, improve road safety, and increase the public’s sense of security, especially in urban hotspots where activity tends to peak at night.

While most of those stopped were released after checks, the night’s figures show a familiar mix for Cyprus police: speeding, substance-related offenses, and isolated cases of more serious criminal behavior all appearing under the same sweep of enforcement.
