Four people have been arrested in Cyprus as police investigate what they describe as a wide-ranging case involving alleged organised crime, extortion, fraud and weapons offenses spanning several years.

The arrests were carried out on Thursday during a coordinated police operation across the Larnaca and Nicosia districts, involving multiple services and specialist units.

Among those detained are two Greek Cypriot businessmen, aged 44 and 42; a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot woman; and a 49-year-old man who is currently being held in the Central Prisons on remand.

Police said the suspects are being investigated for a series of alleged offenses committed between 2021 and 2024, mainly in the Larnaca district.

The list of suspected crimes is wide-ranging and includes participation in a criminal organization, conspiracy to commit felonies and misdemeanors, kidnapping or unlawful detention, extortion, threats of violence, fraud, and money laundering.

Authorities also say the investigation includes allegations of illegal possession and transport of a Category B firearm, as well as explosives without a license.

Police carried out searches at premises following the arrests, during which several items were collected as potential evidence.

The four suspects are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court on Friday, June 11, where police will request detention orders as investigations continue.

Officials have not released further details about the alleged network or how the suspects are believed to be connected, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The case is being treated as one of the more serious organized crime probes currently underway in the island’s southeast, with police continuing inquiries across multiple jurisdictions.
