Police continue to investigate seven pistols discovered in an open area of Engomi, while awaiting ballistics test results to determine their history and possible use in crimes. The firearms were uncovered following a tip-off, prompting authorities to treat the find with heightened caution.
Officers from the Nicosia CID, the Police Dog Unit, and other units responded swiftly, securing the site and recovering a plastic bag containing the weapons. Investigators are now focusing on identifying the source of the firearms, who may have hidden them, and the intended recipient or user.
Ballistics analyses are expected to clarify whether the pistols are functional and if they have been involved in any criminal activity. According to Christodoulos Konsolos of the Police Headquarters Communication Department, the weapons “will undergo scientific examination to establish if they are linked to any offences. Should connections to specific individuals be identified, appropriate questioning procedures will follow.”
Authorities expect the inquiry to continue over the coming days, with the ballistics results playing a key role in determining whether a potential crime was averted and whether the firearms were intended for immediate use.
