Cyprus has begun the process of bringing home 14 students who were stranded in Tanzania, the Foreign Ministry confirmed.
The group, which also includes two teachers and two accompanying staff members, had traveled to Tanzania for volunteer work but became unable to leave due to recent political instability in the country. They were safely flown to Zanzibar, where they are spending the night before continuing their journey.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis explained that the 18 individuals were airlifted from Kilwa to Zanzibar. Tomorrow, Tuesday, they are scheduled to depart for Cyprus via Dubai, with an anticipated arrival on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Gotsis emphasized that the repatriation operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working closely with the High Commission in Nairobi and the National Crisis Management Center, with ongoing support from the EU Delegation in Dar es Salaam.
