Enjoy the mild vibes while they last, because the atmosphere is preparing a wardrobe change. A weak high-pressure system is currently keeping things relatively steady, but it’s slowly handing over the reins to a low-pressure system that will bring a grayer mood by the weekend.
Today kicks off with a bit of a tease; locally increased clouds that will gradually thicken as the day goes on. By the afternoon, the sky will likely be "mostly cloudy," with isolated showers expected to pop up mainly over the mountains, the west, and the north. If you are heading up to the highest peaks of Troodos, keep an eye out for snow or sleet adding a fresh dusting to the scenery.
The winds are keeping it casual today, starting variable and light (3 Beaufort) before settling into a gentle southwesterly-to-northwesterly breeze. The sea is matching that energy, staying calm to slightly rough, perfect for a Friday evening walk, provided you bring a light jacket.
Temperature-wise, we are still enjoying a comfortable buffer before the cold snap. Expect highs of 16°C inland and a lovely 18°C on the coast. In the higher mountains, it’s a crisp 7°C, so the hot chocolate weather is already there.
Tonight, the clouds aren't going anywhere. We expect the weather to remain mainly cloudy with isolated showers sticking around, particularly in the west and north. The winds will shift slightly but remain light, ensuring a peaceful (if damp) night.
The outlook:
The weekend is bringing a bit of everything.
Saturday (tomorrow): Keep the umbrella handy. It will be mainly cloudy with local showers, and yes, more snow or sleet is expected on the Troodos peaks.
Sunday: Here comes the chill. A cold air mass arrives, bringing a "noticeable drop" in temperature that will push us below the seasonal average. We are also looking at snowfall dipping lower into the higher mountainous areas, not just the peaks.
Monday: The new week starts cold and partly cloudy, with winter holding its ground.
Enjoy the mild 18°C today, but make sure your heavy winter coat is clean and ready for Sunday!
