A high-level meeting was convened this week to address mounting concerns over ongoing disruptions to the Information System of Cyprus’s General Healthcare System (GeSY). The meeting took place on 14 January and was chaired by the Minister of Health, bringing together representatives of the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) and NCR Cyprus Ltd, the company responsible for operating and maintaining the system.

The discussions focused on the technical failures that have affected the smooth functioning of GeSY in recent weeks, impacting healthcare providers and the public alike. According to information shared during the meeting, NCR Cyprus Ltd has already traced the root cause of the system malfunctions. As an immediate response, the company has put in place temporary technical measures designed to contain the problem and reduce its effects while a permanent solution is prepared.

At the same time, work is underway on a comprehensive action plan aimed at fully restoring the system’s stability and performance. This plan is expected to be finalized within the day and rolled out in the coming days, signaling a move from short-term fixes to a lasting resolution.

The Health Insurance Organization has emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation and expects full cooperation and commitment from the contractor to ensure the rapid normalization of the system. Authorities have also stressed that transparency will be maintained throughout the process, with GeSY providers receiving regular updates as developments unfold.

A further official briefing is expected once the action plan has been completed and its implementation begins, offering clearer timelines for the full restoration of the GeSY Information System.
