Customs officers have pulled the plug on thousands of counterfeit condoms in Famagusta, seizing more than 24,000 knockoffs from a warehouse and a local store.
The bust started on Jan. 23 after the Medical Device Authority received a tip-off that some products might be “less than genuine.” Officers swooped in, confiscating 5,040 condoms and 418 lubricants, then sent photos to the brand’s legal team to check whether the goods were violating intellectual property rules.
A follow-up raid on Jan. 30 turned up nearly 20,000 more, prompting the company owner to admit the items were fake and hand them over for destruction.
Officials said the case is now under investigation by Larnaca Customs, and the message is clear: counterfeit medical products, even the ones that are supposed to be “protection,” won’t be getting a free pass in Cyprus.
