The plenary of the House of Representatives on Friday condemned Turkey's invasion in Afrin, Syria, pointing out that it is a blatant violation of international law and Syria`s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a resolution, adopted today unanimously, the House points out that the Turkish invasion is also a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2401 calling for a 30-day ceasefire to allow humanitarian assistance to be transferred into the town and provide civilians with the humanitarian aid they need.

The Turkish invasion, the resolution says, targets the Syrian Kurds, the whole of Syrian population as well as other citizens who fled into the region because of the attacks by the Islamic State. The resolution also points out that Turkey proves to be playing a leading role in destabilizing Syria and calls on the international community to break its silence and exert pressure so that Turkey terminates its illegal operation in the country. Furthermore it calls on all parties to respect the ceasefire.

The Plenum of the Cyprus House also underlines its solidarity with the Syrian people, the Kurdish forces who are fighting against ISIS and all the Kurds who live in Cyprus.
