In what many see as a much-needed shake-up, the Cyprus Police Department has initiated a significant reshuffling, with key transfers across the ranks. Deputy Chief Panicos Stavrou signed off on the changes, which take effect on November 4. The overhaul is expected to address long-standing issues and improve the department’s responsiveness and efficiency.
One of the most notable shifts involves Christos Andreou, the former police press spokesman, who will now take on the role of Deputy Commander of Administration and Operations at the YCAN Headquarters. This transition marks a strategic move to bolster leadership in key areas.
Stepping into the role of police spokesperson is Kyriaki Lambrianidou, filling Andreou’s former position. Meanwhile, Ioannis Yiorkatzi, previously leading the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID), will take charge of the Information Management and Analysis Service—a move expected to enhance the department's data-driven capabilities. George Andreou will succeed Yiorkatzi as head of the Nicosia CID, bringing his own expertise to the unit.
The Limassol Police Department also sees adjustments. Yiannakis Sotiriades will continue as Assistant Police Director for Limassol Command but is stepping down from his operational duties. Marinos Vassiliou has been appointed as Assistant Director of Limassol Operations, tasked with energizing the command’s response in a sector under heightened demand.
In another strategic transfer, Andreas Labrianou, formerly in charge of Information Management and Analysis, will now serve as the director of the Chief of Police’s office, overseeing human resources as well. Labrianou’s dual role aims to streamline operations directly from the Chief’s office and support better personnel management across the department.
This series of transfers has been characterized as “resounding” by insiders, reflecting the scale and anticipated impact of these changes. The restructuring is a move to inject fresh energy and renewed focus into various units, signaling the department’s commitment to more effective service and enhanced public safety across Cyprus.
