The Republic of Cyprus has sent firefighting aircraft to help fight the fire in Turkish-occupied Kantara, Deputy Government Spokesperson Niovi Parisinou told CNA.

She said that the Department of Forests received a request for assistance in support of the firefighting effort in occupied Kantara, adding that after an evaluation of the situation, the Forestry Department decided to send two aircraft to the occupied areas.

"It goes without saying that we are always ready and willing to help," she said.

Aircraft from the UN and Turkey are also being used to help in the firefighting efforts in occupied Kantara.
