The Cyprus Shipping Chamber has taken center stage at the prestigious Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit, held just ahead of Hong Kong Maritime Week from November 17 to 23. Organized by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in partnership with Hong Kong's Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the summit served as a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and government officials to discuss the future of global maritime trade.
The summit focused on pressing issues shaping the shipping sector, including shifting global supply chain dynamics, the fallout of geopolitical tensions, and the critical need for sustainability and innovation. These discussions set the stage for a week-long series of events aimed at fostering collaboration across the industry.
Representing the Cyprus Shipping Industry was Thomas Kazakos, Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, alongside several CEOs from the Chamber’s member companies. Their participation followed an official invitation from the ICS, where the Chamber has been an active member for over three decades.
On a state level, Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis participated in a high-profile ministerial dialogue hosted by the ICS. In this forum, Hadjimanolis engaged with ministers from leading maritime nations, sharing perspectives and exploring collaborative strategies to bolster global trade and address industry challenges.
The Chamber emphasized its commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability in shipping, further strengthening Cyprus’s reputation as a maritime leader. "The Cyprus Shipping Chamber’s active involvement highlights its pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime trade," read the Chamber’s press release, underlining Cyprus’s focus on collaboration and strategic leadership in tackling global challenges.
