Four people were rescued Sunday after falling in the sea caves area of Cape Greco, authorities said. One of the individuals was injured and taken to Famagusta General Hospital for treatment.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) said it activated the national search and rescue plan “Nearchos” at 5:50 p.m. after receiving reports that four people were in danger.

The operation involved an ambulance from the State Health Services Organization, firefighters from the Paralimni station, the police disaster response unit EMAK, a Famagusta police foot patrol, a marine police vessel and a police helicopter.

EMAK officers retrieved the four individuals and transferred them to the hospital by ambulance, the JRCC said in a statement.

Authorities reiterated that access to the Cape Greco sea caves is strictly prohibited. The Geological Survey Department has deemed the area unstable and dangerous due to erosion, making both entry and diving unsafe.
