President Nikos Christodoulides will donate his monthly pension to six elderly care centers across Cyprus for the next 12 months, the Presidency announced.
Under the newly passed “Law on the Possibility of Waiving Pension, 2025,” Christodoulides, who served 18 years as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed the heads of six Community Volunteer Councils that his pension of €730 per month will support residential homes and care centers, primarily in rural areas.
Although he traditionally avoids publicizing charitable acts, the president said he considered it appropriate to share this information because it has been part of his personal and family initiatives.
Contributions for the first year will be made in memory of Christodoulides’ parents, Katerina and Phoivos Christodoulides, and aim to improve the daily lives of senior citizens across the country.
Institutions receiving the funds include:
Nicosia District: Klirou Community Elderly Center; Solea-Evrychou Multipurpose Center
Limassol District: SKE Foiniou
Larnaca District: Athienou Elderly Home
Famagusta District: KEPA Agios Christoforos
Paphos District: SKE Geroskipou Adult Day Center
Christodoulides plans to continue supporting different institutions annually with his pension for as long as he serves as president.
