The aeronautical exercise "EUNOMIA" kicked off on Thursday for its fifth consecutive year, involving Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and France as part of the Quadrilateral Cooperation (QUAD). The exercise, named "EUNOMIA 5 - 2024," is aimed at enhancing security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region and ensuring freedom of navigation. Coordinated by Greece, the exercise will run from September 12 to 18, 2024, and will take place in both the sea and airspace of the region.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence, the exercise focuses on improving cooperation and operational readiness among the participating naval and air forces. The joint effort highlights the countries' shared commitment to upholding international maritime law, including the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The drills will cover a wide range of activities, including maritime interdiction, anti-aircraft operations, surface and anti-submarine warfare, combating asymmetric threats, search and rescue missions, civilian evacuation tactics, and even a cyber warfare exercise.
