A food delivery driver was killed in a road incident in east Nicosia on Friday, after his motorcycle collided with a car driven by a driver under the influence who fled the scene.
According to police, 24-year-old King Prestly Saha from Bangladesh was riding his motorcycle on John Kennedy Avenue in Pallouriotissa, east Nicosia, Friday evening around 7:50pm, when he collided with a vehicle driven by a local male.
Police said the car crossed into the opposite lane and struck Saha, who was on a motorcycle food delivery in the area, with an official report saying the driver of the other vehicle immediately fled the scene.
Saha, who was said to have been wearing his motorcycle helmet, was rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Investigators who went through the scene of the accident later received information about the car driver, described as a 31-year-old Greek Cypriot male who was apprehended in Geri, a suburb southeast of the capital.
An initial breathalyzer test, which was administrated on the suspect, showed 108mg while the official test registered 79mg of alcohol in his breath, roughly three and a half times over the limit.
The suspect was detained for questioning.
