Veterinary authorities have identified five new cases of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus, adding to the growing number of affected livestock units. Four of the newly confirmed infections involve sheep and goats in Geri, while one case has been detected in cattle in the Dromolaxia-Meneou area. These latest findings bring the total number of infected farms to 75, with 15 located in Nicosia and 60 in Larnaca, all within designated outbreak zones.

Efforts to contain the disease continue through an ongoing vaccination campaign. The second round of vaccinations has now covered 71% of cattle, while immunization among sheep and goats has reached just over half of the total population, at 50.5%. Vaccination progress is more advanced in pig farms, where 84% of units in affected areas have already been treated.

Challenges remain in certain locations. In Pergamos, livestock owners have agreed to vaccinate their animals and are waiting for private veterinarians to proceed. However, external interference is preventing these vaccinations from taking place. The matter is currently being addressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the United Nations.

At the same time, authorities are maintaining surveillance measures, including sample collection from farms in affected zones, tracking potential transmission routes, and conducting laboratory analyses to monitor the spread of the disease.
