Nepali woman facing deportation on visa overstay after trying to file labour dispute in Paphos

A foreign woman ended up getting arrested after going to Migration to file charges against her employer.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, a woman from Nepal went to the Migration Department to file a complaint against her employer, who owns a restaurant in Peyia, Paphos district. Knews could not confirm the exact location where the woman went to file her case.

CNA reported that the Nepali woman attempted to file a complaint on November 6 at 1am in connection with a labour dispute.

The woman was arrested on the spot after officers told her they determined her visa had expired

But police told Knews that they received no complaint in connection with her allegations.

According to CNA, the woman was arrested on the spot at the Migration department after officials told her they determined her visa had expired on 3 May 2019.

It was not clarified whether the woman had overstayed her visa or had a pending application with state authorities.

CNA reported that she was detained while deportation proceedings had began, adding that her employer was charged with an offence and would appear in court at a later date.

Knews was unable to confirm the offence or the allegations against the employer.
