A suspect arrested in connection with a terrorism-related investigation in Cyprus has four children serving in the Republic’s security forces, according to reports by Phileleftheros.

The man, in his 50s, is one of four individuals detained in Larnaca as part of an ongoing probe into alleged links to a suspected Hamas-related network operating in Cyprus.

According to the report, one of his sons serves in the Cyprus Police, while three other children are serving in the National Guard under contract. At least two of them are assigned to the same unit.

Officials quoted in Phileleftheros said the situation has been examined by the relevant authorities, including police, the National Guard and a state security service. They added that no concerns have emerged regarding the children’s service.

“Nothing has emerged about his children that would raise concerns about the security of the state,” an official was quoted as saying, adding that the matter remains under monitoring as a precaution.

The wider investigation began after police discovered chemical substances used in the production of high-powered explosives at locations in the Larnaca district, including Governor’s Beach and the Kamares area.

Authorities have described the case as ongoing and highly sensitive, with multiple agencies continuing to examine possible links between those arrested and the materials recovered.
