In a meeting held on Wednesday (11/10), Bill Gates conferred with EU Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides. This gathering followed a joint announcement alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Investment Bank President Werner Hoyer, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF regarding a €1 billion partnership aimed at eradicating polio.

During their discussions, Gates and Kyriakides explored potential avenues for collaborative efforts in addressing future health crises, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They reaffirmed their commitment to global cooperation on health-related issues, with a particular focus on nations facing economic instability.

Commissioner Kyriakides provided Gates with a comprehensive overview of European-level initiatives since the launch of the European Health Union, highlighting significant strides in collective health management, including the operation of HERA, the Health Emergency Response Authority.

On behalf of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates outlined ongoing global efforts to make medical innovations accessible to all. He expressed optimism about the imminent eradication of polio and the continuation of endeavors to combat other global diseases, particularly in the most economically disadvantaged regions.

Both Kyriakides and Gates reaffirmed their dedication to working closely together in pursuit of their shared mission: providing practical assistance to children and individuals worldwide who are most vulnerable and in need of support.
