Kittens brutally murdered in Larnaca cemetery

Larnaca cemetery becomes a site of animal cruelty

Newsroom

In a shocking revelation, a concerned citizen who cares for kittens at St. George Cemetery in Larnaca has expressed their horror and dismay. The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation has issued a statement regarding the discovery of five cats that were found brutally killed, bearing clear signs of torture before their demise.

It's worth noting that a similar incident occurred last March in the same cemetery, raising serious concerns. Despite a complaint to the police, it appears that little was done.

According to the information provided by the concerned citizen, the police investigation in March 2023 indicated that the kittens had been savagely beaten against a wall and then discarded on the roof of a building. Shockingly, after an autopsy, the authorities concluded that the kittens had met their unfortunate end in a road accident, leaving many to question the validity of this conclusion.

The Movement insists that the police must now take cases of animal abuse and murder with the utmost seriousness. Those responsible must be brought to justice, as impunity only leads to a vicious cycle of such horrific incidents and further loss of innocent lives.

Anthi Mouzouri, the coordinator of the Action Group for Animals within the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens Cooperation, expressed her concern about the incident, stating, "Once again, we confront a heinous crime against animals.

The presence of individuals in our society who commit such acts is deeply troubling. Research has shown that such behaviors are often linked to individuals with mental disorders and a lack of empathy for animals.

It is high time for legislation to be rigorously enforced, and the perpetrators of these acts must face exemplary punishment. For this specific incident, we strongly call for an immediate and thorough investigation, as it appears to be a recurrence of an incident that deeply concerned us eight months ago in the same location.

In the year 2023, our society cannot afford to turn a blind eye to criminal mistreatment of animals. We are committed to following this case until justice is served.
