The Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios welcomed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus the US position that Turkey is the sole party contributing to rising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, and not Greece or Cyprus.
“The Government welcomes the position of the US, as clearly expressed during in the US Senate debate by the deputy assistant secretary of the State Department's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Christopher Robinson, who said that tensions in the region are not caused by Cyprus or Greece,” Kousios said.
Kousios also welcomed the position put forward by US Senator Bob Menendez, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, “who said that Turkey is the only party engaging in provocative actions in the region.”
