Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides asked senior US energy official Francis Fannon for a substantial US contribution to efforts seeking to end Turkish activities in the Cyprus exclusive economic zone.
Fannon, who is holding a series of contacts in Cyprus, met with Christodoulides on Thursday prior to his departure from the island, en route to Turkey where he is set to hold a further round of talks.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, Fannon and Christodoulides discussed Turkey’s illegal activities in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, and the ways in which these, among other things, affect US interests.
During their discussion, Christodoulides requested from Fannon that the US gets substantially involved in efforts seeking to terminate Turkey’s unlawful activities, not just in Cyprus but also in the wider region.
