The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) in Cyprus has reported three deaths related to Influenza A over a span of ten days. The organization stated that both the fatalities and the growing demand for hospital care are consistent with patterns observed during the influenza season.
OKYPY spokesperson Pambos Harilaou identified the deceased as a 43-year-old man who had been treated at Nicosia General Hospital, an 85-year-old man also hospitalized at Nicosia General Hospital, and a 75-year-old man who was admitted to Paphos General Hospital. According to Harilaou, the outcomes of influenza cases can vary significantly. He noted that individuals without pre-existing health conditions might experience severe complications requiring admission to intensive care units, while others with underlying conditions may recover without the need for specialized care.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and encourage residents to take preventive measures, including vaccination and maintaining proper hygiene, to minimize the risk of severe illness.
