Electronic health record is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, National Electronic Health Authority Board Chairman, Professor Christos Schizas, said on Monday after a meeting with Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos.

The Health Minister stated that the meeting with the Chairman and the members of the Board of Directors of the Authority was "useful", noting that he was informed about the mission and the work of the Authority, which has as its main objective to implement electronic health, starting with the unified electronic record of citizens' health.

"E-health can bring significant benefits to society as a whole, improving access to care as well as its quality” the Health Minister stressed, adding that “after all, electronic health tools provide access to health information that can save lives, a fact that is particularly important, due to the ever-increasing cross-border movement of citizens and patients”.

In particular, he said that one of the most basic benefits is the contribution of electronic health to prevention, which will reduce the cost and suffering of the citizen.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, Professor Christos Schizas, thanked the Minister, saying that the Government and the Minister have included electronic health in the governance program.

Asked about the timeline of the project’s implementation he expressed hope that by the end of 2024 the project will be completed. "We hope we will be one of the first countries to have the record," he said.
