After several days of sustained rainfall across Cyprus, the low-pressure system currently affecting the island has brought the most substantial boost to dam reserves so far this hydrological year.
New figures released by the Water Development Department on the afternoon of 12 January show that approximately 1.7 million cubic metres of water entered the reservoirs over the past three days alone. This short period nearly matched the entire volume collected during December, which totalled 1.9 million cubic metres.
For the first time in many months, the overall storage level of the dams has also increased. Capacity rose from 9.4% on Friday, 9 January, to 10%, corresponding to 28.995 million cubic metres of stored water.
Meteorological conditions remain encouraging. Rainfall continues in several regions, while snowfall on the higher elevations of the Troodos range is expected to contribute to additional runoff in the coming days.
